Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Tuesday, December 16, 1873, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Tuesday, Dec 16, 1873- My pictures came back from Moore. Began a small picture for him. In the afternoon Gertrude and I took a ride around by Steep Rocks. It was very muddy but the air was charming. Just as we reached Steep Rocks Still was hauling a net. We waited to see the result. He caught a lot of sun fish and perch and I bought some to bring home. We went around by Flat bush and went very slowly on account of the mud. The fish were alive when we reached home. Wrote to Bret Harte inviting him to stay with us Jan 2 when he lectures here.
