Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Tuesday, December 30, 1873, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Tuesday, Dec 30, 1873- I very foolishly attempted to paint on my little figure today. The sun shone and the and the light was so entirely different that I thought I would paint the face without having Gertrude to stand. The result is that it is not half so good after working on it all day as it was before I began and it has made me feel very depressed in connection with some other worries. It is very cold. Downing and I took a walk up towards Kingston just before tea.
