Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Friday, February 14, 1873, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Friday, Feb. 14, 1873- Brevoort had his sale last night and in spite of his flattering promises his pictures went for absolutely nothing - 5. 10. 15 dollars and some he could not get a bid on. Whittredge was there and he told me it was terrible. Went to Wilmarts and saw my picture boxed for England. Called on Magrath who is in the dumps, and tried to cheer him up a little. From there to Wells, Fargo & Co to see about getting my picture off by tomorrows steamer. Am in hopes it will go but am not sure. Pd freight on it and had it insured by them for half its value $500. Freight was 13.70 and the insurance $5.
