Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, February 14, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Saturday, Feb 14, 1874- John Weir came in and lunched with us after which we went up to see Thompson's statue of the first president of Yale College, which I think one of Thompsons best works. Weir went home this afternoon. In the evening Gertrude and I went over to Vauxs to see the private theatricals which Bowyer and his friends have been at work upon for a long time. The plays were cordially received. Will Radford showed decided talent. After this was over I went to the Lotos Club to a reception to Charles Kingsley. It was late when I reached there and he had gone. Was invited to join the club as one of seven leading artists, to become a life member at no cost except to give a sketch if I chose.
