Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Thursday, February 26, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Thursday, Feb 26, 1874- The snow was very deep this morning and people are going about in sleighs. Mary took Gertrude and Alice and Mary Ellis to sleigh ride in the Park. I wrote to Mr. James that I would send his picture today and that as I had not heard from Mr. Stillman I would let him have the little figure at the same price which I named to him $300 exclusive of the frame with the reservation that I shall keep it for the Academy exhibition. In the evening Gertrude and I went to Eastman Johnsons. To our great surprise they told us they had just come from the funeral of Reubens wife. I was sorry we went for Mrs Johnson evidently did not want to see us or perhaps any one. Reubens wife was there on Tuesday evening perfectly well apparently and died that night from apoplexy.
