Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, June 28, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Sunday, June 28, 1874- Mary came up last evening for the summer with Calvert & Julia. John Decker & his wife from Montgomery came on Wednesday and went home on Friday. Vaux and I went over on the Vlight-bergh this morning and found it very pleasant there. It was very hot, one of the hottest days of the season. I was sick all day yesterday. Tried to work a little in the morning but was obliged to go to bed. Today I have written to Alfred Booth that if he wants my "Pine Tree" I will exchange with him for the little picture and $300. Wrote to Snedecor asking him to send me the $50 he owes me. Answered a note from Wilmart, wrote to the Batchelders, to Weir and to the Grays.
