Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Saturday, November 7, 1874, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Saturday, Nov 7, 1874- Went to N.Y. by the Wallkill Valley Rail Road taking my figure picture for which Lucy stood with me and sent it to the monthly meeting of the Century. I dont think it was very much admired and I dare say was criticized considerably. I rather expected this but wanted to know how it would look with the other pictures and besides I know some people liked it and praised it. Lunched with Pinchot on Monday and had a pleasant time with him. Attended a council meeting of the Academy in the evening where we discussed ways and means of raising money. Dined at Marys on Sunday and Monday and was invited to dine at Mr. De Forests on Monday. Gray and his family came home from Florence a few days ago but I did not see him. Returned today Tuesday 10th. The weather is warm and pleasant.
