Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Thursday, April 29, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Called at the Wheelers last night and at Eastman Johnsons. Today Gifford and I attended Genl. [?] wedding at the Grammercy House. It was a very grand affair. They were married by Cardinal McClosky and Genl. Grant was to have been there. There was such a crowd we could not see the ceremony and after it was over crowded in and spoke a moment with the bride and groom when we came away regardless of the wedding breakfast. Called at the DeForests this evening. Downing is staying with me as they have dismantled the house in 15th St. and tomorrow they are all going up to their house on the Palisades. Wrote to Gertrude.
