Jervis McEntee Diaries

Monday December 6, 1875

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Monday, December 6, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Sick all day Friday. Headache! Sat in my chair all day. Went home Saturday morning, and returned today feeling better. The river frozen solidly from Rhinebeck north and all navigation suspended from Rondout. Took up my essay and read it to Gertrude. All seemed pleased with it. Tonight went to the Council of the Academy. As I supposed not a sufficient number of Academicians reported to base any calculation upon for applying for a separate gallery at the Centennial. Whittredge is too easily irritated for the President of the Academy. Detracts from his usefulness. Does a great deal but worries too much. Called on Mrs. Taylor on my way to the Academy.
