Jervis McEntee Diaries

Sunday May 23, 1875

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Sunday, May 23, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Gertrude came down on Friday and in the evening we went up to Eastman Johnsons. Saturday which was very warm we spent in shopping and a visit to the Academy. In the evening I went to the Club but not finding it very interesting did not stay late. Today we went over to Girards and took him and his wife to Coney Island. It was a very warm day but we found it cool and delightful there with grand skies and effects of passing thunder showers. The county is delicious in color and the long lines of the level stretch towards the sea with its woods and just blossoming orchards interested me greatly by its simplicity. I could make pictures of these things and ought to go there to make some studies. We had dinner there and got home by half past six after a very enjoyable day.
