Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Wednesday, September 15, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Oscar went to N.Y. on Monday. I have been at work on my picture and today painted in new drapery from Gertrude who stood for me. I think it is better. Received a letter last night from Stafford and Beard written on Saturday. They spoke of the high character of the exhibition and were very enthusiastic but evidently nothing had been sold although they had had a buyers day and two days open to the public. This does not look encouraging. They sent me the Chicago Tribune with a long notice of the Art Gallery. Recd a short letter from Eastman and one from Whittredge in which he seems inclined to go to Shokan for October. Answered it today and sent him Beards letter and the Chicago Tribune. Downing came up this evening.
