Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Monday, Sept 20, 1875, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Downing went home today much to the regret of all of us. We find it pleasant to have a little infusion of young life in our sober household. Old Mr. Shufeldt died suddenly today. I received a postal card from Whittredge telling us his eldest child is very ill. I am afraid he is going to lose it. Received a note from Hinshlewood the engraver asking me when I would be in town as he wants to consult me about an engraving he has been making from the Fisher Girl I left with Moore this spring. Moore has never asked my permission to have this engraved and this is the first intimation I have ever had of it. Received a very laconic note from Church. Suppose he wants to go off somewhere soon. I cant go this year. Painted a little on my figure picture this afternoon and made a change in the general effect for the better I think.
