Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Wednesday, December 20, 1876, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Booth sat or rather stood for Shylock. He is pleased with the beginning but I dont think I got along well. Deposited my check today and went down to Fulton St. to order my shoes of my shoemaker. Met John McEntee who is here settling up his fathers affairs. Mr. Hoe called to see about a small picture for a friend. Wants my Autumn Idyl if I didn't ask so much for it. Called with Mrs. Bayard Taylor on Miss Annie Lee who is painting Genl. Dix. I was very much pleased with her. She paints remarkably well but the Generals figure struck me as being badly drawn. Bowyer and I go up tomorrow and I shall not return until after Christmas.
