Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, March 8, 1876, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
We went to a tableau party last night at Mrs. Wheelers. Dora was very fine as Mrs. Siddons by Gainsborough. Gertrude had an opportunity to see a number of her friends, Mrs. Joy, Miss Hitchcock, Mrs. Platt, Mrs. Waring and many others. Mr. Bryant and Julia were there and the old gentleman seemed to enjoy it as much as any one. Pinchot called on me today and told me he would leave it to me to take my picture for the Summer Exhibition or the Centennial as I pleased but I think he would like it to go to the Centennial. A Mr. Squires and his wife from Ilion called to see my pictures. Wants to get a moderate sized one. Haven Putnam called. Is going to England in June.
