Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Tuesday, June 26, 1877, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Here in N.Y. this hot weather. Sara and I came down on the Powell a week ago yesterday and we went on to Boston together Monday evening to attend Alice Sawyers wedding which occurred Thursday 21st and was a very pleasant affair. About sixty of her friends were present and after the ceremony they left for the White Mts. I remained there until last night when I returned by the Providence line leaving Gertrude there. Sara went yesterday to St. John by boat to visit Gussie at Hillsboro. St. John has been nearly destroyed by fire and she will arrive there today but Joe will make arrangements to meet her. I saw her on board the boat yesterday. About the 7th of July I expect to go to the White Sulphur Springs where Bayard Taylor and his wife are going on the 9th and I hope to take Gertrude with me.
