Jervis McEntee Diaries

Saturday May 12, 1877

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Saturday, May 12, 1877, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Went to Tarrytown with Mr. Hoe. Spent the day on his grounds and had lunch at the house. We had a talk on Academy affairs. He seemed to think it would be a good thing if the Fellows had some voice in the government of the Academy but had no plan to propose. I argued that the Artists had managed their institution practically and on the whole wisely which he admitted. When we returned after a very pleasant day he gave me a basket of beautiful flowers for Gertrude.
