The Temperance Jubilee occurred on O Reillys grove at the spring this afternoon. Speeches by Major Lindsley, Father Duffy & Father Doughnty & others. About 3000 people present. Extremely hot. The country is burned up with drought, our wells and cisterns are nearly dry and I feel a sense of anxiety and depression due very much I think to the weather. It is very hot in the sunshine, as hot as at any time this summer. I have done no sketching yet and am undecided where to go. I think however I will go to the mountains at least by Oct 1. A few days ago I received a letter from Morris & Schwab announcing the arrival of my picture on Sept. 4.
