Jervis McEntee Diaries

Saturday January 5, 1878

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Saturday, January 5, 1878, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

This morning returning from my walk I stopped and thanked Mrs Leggett for the book of poems she sent me and I also stopped in at Averys new gallery. He was there and showed me about. He has fitted it up very tastefully and is in a good position to do business. When I came away he followed me out and said he would like to have something of mine. I talked with him very frankly and I think from what he said he would be glad to have the works of some of the leading artists. He said he would come and see me. Booth came in this afternoon and looked at the little character pictures. He says they look as well as ever and he is entirely satisfied with them. He is coming on Wednesday to sit for me.
