Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Saturday, July 27, 1878, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Washed the old waggon and took it up over the carriage house preparatory to painting and refitting it. In the afternoon my mother, Mrs. Davis, Gertrude and I drove out to Sawkill ford where they fished while I made a sketch. It was a beautiful day with a north wind. The farmers were getting in their oats and hay and after the delicious rain the country was delightful.
