Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Monday, June 17, 1878, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Old Mr. Williams died yesterday morning within a few days of eighty nine years of age. He retained his faculties to the last and died peacefully and apparently without pain. Today I have begun to put a coat of new linseed oil over the house outside. We painted it two years ago and the colors have faded. I find by oiling it the color is restored and I intend to go over the whole of it.
