Sara went to N.Y. on the Powell to meet Gussie, Joe and Laura. It rained violently here all day. I spent the forenoon painting the sash. Gussie and Laura arrived with Sara but Joe did not come, thinking it better to rest in New York. Laura is much changed and looked very ill. Poor Gussie was over come by her emotions and gave way utterly, for the first time I dare say since Dwight died.
