Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Thursday, March 21, 1878, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Have been at work on my picture. On Tuesday I abandoned it in despair but yesterday I changed my plan of it, worked hard all day and now I think there is much in it which is fine. Several of the Artists have seen it and I think they are all impressed with it. I feel very happy over it because I am sure it is an entirely original picture and that there are elements of grandeur and imaginative qualities in it. We spent the evening at the Taylors on Sunday and saw them in their house for the last time. Taylor was here yesterday to see his little picture I have been copying. He & Mrs T. had a reception at the Goethe Club last night. He wanted us to go but we declined.
