Wrote a short note to Mary this morning. It has been a beautiful day and I have spent the whole of it getting many of our things over from my studio at my house and storing those I did not keep out in the little room over the carriage house. There were so many reminders of our early married life and our first house keeping. I like to be in the midst of all these things. They soothe and console me. I found a great pile of Gertrudes old music and some of her Aunt Marthas which I cleaned carefully and have put in her music cabinet in the parlor. After dinner my father and I went over to the cemetery and he sowed the grass seed on our lot and I had the man rake it over carefully. Stedman sent me the Post with Mr. Bigelows oration on Bryant at the Memorial meeting at the Century Tuesday evening and I read it aloud this evening. Poor little Johnny is sick and we fear diphtheria. Received a Newburgh paper speaking of the convalescence of Mrs. H. K. Brown who it would seem has been very ill.
