Jervis McEntee Diaries

Friday August 1, 1879

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Friday, August 1, 1879, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Worked over at my house in the forenoon but it was very hot and my head felt badly so that I stopped before noon and dressed and bathed and concluded to keep quiet for the rest of the day. Frederick came and mowed a part of the grass and I kept about but finally gave up. Tried "Sedesea", juice of a lemon and some whiskey & carbonic water. My head ache grew worse and after tea sent for a half bottle of champagne which I drank and cured my head ache at once. Heard today of the death of Major John Dubors, Maggie Dubor's brother and of John Wolfers death.
