Jervis McEntee Diaries

Tuesday May 6, 1879

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Tuesday, May 6, 1879, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Mr. Clark came to see me and staid a long time. He took a decided fancy to the picture I am painting and said it was just what he had in his mind. I told him my price for it was $1000 but I would let him have it for $800. I think that is more than he wants to pay but he is coming again on Thursday to see my other picture which was at the club which I told him I would sell him for $500. Wrote to Sara and to Mrs. Weir. The G. B. Club dined at the Down Town Club and we had a satisfactory dinner. The guests were Vaux, Dr. Woolsey Johnston, Rev Mr. Olmstead and Ward who did not come. Marion went up to Stockbridge with Mrs. Rood today.
