Jervis McEntee Diaries

Monday September 29, 1879

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Monday, September 29, 1879, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Next morning canoed over to Trout pond where we took the raft and went all round the lake fishing. Got only one. Rain and cold and foggy. Started for the lake to make our signal for the birch. Near the shore saw smoke and found Church and the ladies there expecting us and getting ready for lunch. After lunch went to the sand beach where we first encamped last year and from there to the large island and so home. Edward very glad to see me and welcoming me with effusion. At the shore Church handed me letters from Booth, Downing and Alice. Soon after we reached Charlie Hale who went out with Gifford returned bringing me letters from Sara, Eastman and Mrs. Carnes. A good dinner in honor of our return. Letters from the Leycesters read and then photographs shown, sent in by Charlie. A grey day and warm night.
