Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, April 2, 1880, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Friday, Apr 2, 1880 Mrs. Weir called before I got to my room. Eastman came and we talked together for two hours. Afterwards I called on Mrs. Weir at Prof. Weirs to ask her to go to the matinee tomorrow Booth having sent me his box. Julia Dillon and Mary went to Montclair to see Cornelia Ellis. I sent her two dollars. I went to the drug store to get some articles and the clerk told me that George A. Baker the artist died this morning. He has been ill a long time and while his death was not unexpected, it nevertheless came to me with a shock. I called on Mrs. Gray in the evening. Her mother and sister Emma were there.
