Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, December 12, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Tuesday, Dec 12, 1882 Bade Downing good bye at breakfast. He goes on board the ship tonight and I will not see him again. Painted on a little winter. Mrs. Hewitt from Milwaukee called. Is going to sail on the Serria. I gave her a card to Downing. A note from Mrs. Gifford who wants me to send her a little picture to sell on commission. Attended the dinner of the G. B. Club which was very pleasant. There were present, Judge Sedgwick, Mr. Gordon, Collins. McDonough, Marbury, Dr. Otis, Dr. Noyes, Woolsey Johnson, Butler, Nash, Mr. Lord and myself. I came to my room through 13th St, infested with women of the town.
