Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, December 4, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Monday, Dec 4, 1882 A very cold morning. Our thermometer marked one degree below zero at 8 oclock and the papers say the mercury was down to 3 degrees below. Alice and I came down in the noon train which was 40 minutes late. The cars were cold and the ride tedious. Spent the evening with Calvert and Marion and came to my room early.
