Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, January 23, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Monday, Jan 23, 1882 It grew very cold in the night and the wind blew a gale from the N.W. I came down in the 4 o'clock train as far as Pokeepsie where I spent the night at Major Wilkinsons. Mary was still here but Julia had that day been summoned by telegraph to Hudson, her mother having had a paralytic stroke. Mary looked very frail and this new anxiety absorbed her in spite of herself. Mrs. Wilkinson and all the rest of the family where there.
