Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, Friday, March 10, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Friday, Mar 10, 1882 Painted on a little twilight picture from a sketch of a sky I made from our little cottage window in 1855 the year after we were married. I could not help associating it with dear Gertrude for I remembered how I used to sit in our "studio" and paint sketches of skies while she was busy with her sewing. Indeed what of my past life do I not associate with her. I often think if it were not for others who are dependent upon me it would be bliss to lie down and die and go to her.
