Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, May 16, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Tuesday, May 16, 1882 Set out some plants for my mother. She felt very badly and said sadly "I am done with all this" and while I felt the truth of it I tried to cheer her. I feel most sadly here at home because I cant do much and have so much time to brood over sorrowful things. The weather is cold. Today has been pleasant but the wind is in the north and we still have the fires going.
