Sunday, May 28, 1882 A rebellion among the servants. The up stairs girl whom Sara has wished to get rid of threatened to leave. To her great surprise Sara paid her and told her she might go at once although her month was not up. I wrote to Mrs. Sawyer, to Jno. Andrews, to Miss Noxon and to Downing. We had a heavy thunder shower in the afternoon. Park came walking into my room afraid of the thunder. I have been thinking of dear Gertrude today. I remarked with her initials some linen sheets on which I could barely discern her maiden name and which she had when we were married. Nothing is so satisfactory to me as to come to my room and think of her and recall her sweet and [?] manner. Was reading today in James Notes on England. On the title is her name as presented to me. That remains and she is gone. That always seems so strange to me.
