Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, November 10, 1882, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Friday, Nov 10, 1882 Worked in my studio painting a little picture of the same thing I did yesterday but did not finish it. The day was so beautiful that I thought it more profitable to take a walk which I did, going along the Vlightbergh again to take a look at my subject which looked beautifully under the mellow Indian summer light, then down to the Point where Park had a swim, along shore by the ice house where our old barn is being turned into an addition to the ice house where I stopped and a made a little pencil drawing looking up the river. I passed the brick yards and went up the field above the Steep rocks, across the hills toward the Alms House and home through Ludlums woods. It was one of the loveliest of days and everything was glorified in the golden air.
