Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, April 16, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Monday, Apr 16, 1883 Grafted some pear trees and budded some peach and cherry trees, the first I ever did. Went to the Strand to do some errands, had my hair cut and paid the note for $300 I got discounted when I paid our taxes. So my money goes. I never seem to get ahead. My father told me of another note for $330 to the Abbeys due on Saturday. I gave him $50 to pay on it. I am almost discouraged and I see that all this worries and troubles my poor mother. Rained this afternoon. Came down with the evening train and went to the club for some supper.
