Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, April 18, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Wednesday, Apr 18, 1883 A note from Fuller still wishing for the evening Mist picture so I made another attempt at it with a canvas more the proportions of the sketch. Had to go to the dentists for two hours in the midst of it. Weir came in towards evening and invited me to go to Coney Island tomorrow with him and his wife. Dined at Frank Weeks with him and his wife and Miss Margaret Blake and at 9 went to the Century to attend a meeting of the Art Union. Dielman said a certain party of artists he met hailed this enterprise with shouts of derision. That indicates the state of hostility of some of them.
