Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, April 27, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Friday, Apr 27, 1883 Went to the dentists. Fuller came to my studio at 11 and after looking at the Evening on which I worked a little while he was here he said he would take it at $350. I told him I would get a new frame for it. He offered to pay me for painting on his picture he bought at Auction but I told him I would charge him nothing for that. I am to keep the picture for the present and if I find I can do anything to improve it I will do so. Dined with some of the Artists, Platt & Collins at the Station place in University Place. It rained violently when we started for there. The dinner is not to my taste but I go because the others do. Came to my room, read a while and went to bed. I am in much better condition financially than I was last year this time for which I am most thankful. Our Art Union promises well and I feel hopeful and encouraged.
