Jervis McEntee Diaries

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, December 21, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Friday, Dec 21, 1883 Snowed last night and still evening. Painted on my figure and am getting it well towards completion. Miss Pierce of Philadelphia called. I promised to call on her this evening. Miss Teale called. Went up to Dr. Longstreets after dinner and called on Miss Pierce and Mrs. Longstreet. They talked of Downing and Edwina, but I was careful and guarded as I always have been on that subject to people outside ones family. A note from Bertha apologizing for not coming. Drawn off cold. Snow deep and going sleighing.
