Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, January 13, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Saturday, Jan 13, 1883 Still very cold. Went down to the dock and bought a cord of wood for 16.50 and did a variety of errands. Wrote on a paper on "Winter Walks" I am thinking of illustrating. Attended the Annual meeting of the Century. Telegraphed home yesterday asking if I could stay. Full meeting. The whole regular ticket elected. Howard Potter elected 2nd Vice President in place of Dr Bellows. I was again elected as a trustee with all the old board. The proposition to buy the Rossiter house after a little discussion which Mr. Tracy choked off was voted upon and lost by one vote. Immediately a syndicate of 8 or 10 members got together and agreed to take the property and it will be brought before the club again. Very good collection of pictures. I sent my Jersey landscape. Saw Weir whose father is very ill. He thinks he will not recover. Rained when I came home.
