Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, June 23, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Saturday, June 23, 1883 A beautiful day. Booth came by the 6 oclk train. He has grown grey but looks young and handsome. He seemed delighted to reach here and thought the place very attractive and pleasant. Received a sympathetic letter from Mary Gifford in answer to the one I wrote her telling her of poor Maurices death. Recd cards announcing the marriage of Ben K[?] to Miss Allen. Booth seems somewhat discouraged about Downing as Edwina has written him that he again seems abstracted. This is a disappointment and troubles me for I thought they were getting on nicely. Where is this to end?
