Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, May 27, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Sunday, May 27, 1883 A beautiful day with a rich clear air. Shortly after breakfast Calvert, Downing and I started on a walk. We went across by the cemetery through the tunnel and across the bridge. A large [?] of men was at work near the south end of the bridge. We went in at the house on the back of Hussey Hill and clear to the top, but could not see out. Returning we came down the valley of the brook opposite Wilbur and along the shore to the ferry giving Park a good chance to swim, and crossing by the ferry got home at 1 oclock.
