Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, November 26, 1883, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Monday, Nov 26, 1883 Went down town and had my hair cut and saw Meyer about painting and putting in order Maurices little cutter. Today occurs the centennial celebration of Evacuation day in N. Y. It began to rain before noon and has rained steadily all day. I worked a little while in my studio. Drove up after Sara who came by the W. S. road in the 11.30 train. A letter came from Lucy to her today full of sadness and sorrow over her dear mothers death. She seems hardly able to reconcile herself to the thought that she will not see her again.
