Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, April 8, 1884, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Tuesday, Apr 8, 1884 Thought I would paint today but did not get a chance. The Gordon reception business breaks in on my time. Marion with Miss Hamilton and Miss Hutchinson called and afterwards Mrs. Eastman Johnson, Miss Mullany and Ethel. Attended a meeting of the Gordon reception Committee at the Century at which details were discussed and settled. Booth called while I was out. He left a note inviting me to a Breakfast to Irving at Delmonicis on Monday next. There was also a small package to be returned to Mary containing a Daguerrotype of Downing when he was a child, a little box with a lock of his hair and a little silver vinaigrette which Mary had given to Edwina. I accepted Booths invitation. He has not been to see me before since he came to town this last time.
