Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, August 20, 1884, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Wednesday, Aug 20, 1884 Made a sketch of the Sawmill from above in the forenoon and resolved to go home. Orrin has engaged a team for me and I am going tomorrow. Worked on one of my former studies, and my best one in the afternoon and took a plunge in the stream in a deep place near where I was at work. I feel happy to think I am going home but I know I will soon grow discontented there. Still I will have companionship and I find life pretty dreary without that. Now to pack my trunk.
