Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, February 10, 1884, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Sunday, Feb 10, 1884 Wrote to Mary Gifford to come down Saturday and also a letter to Uncle Maurice to explain why he had no notice of my mothers funeral. Calvert and I took a walk out towards the Roatina, across by the Alms house road and home through Ludlums woods in time for dinner. It was a mild, pleasant winter day with the sun somewhat obscured. After dinner, Mary, Sara, Mrs. Swan, Mary Girard Calvert and I took a ride down around the river road to Flat bush crossing over to the Saugerties road and home. The roads were wet but good sleighing. A great many people on the river skating and with ice boats. The moonlight this evening was most beautiful.
