Tuesday, July 15, 1884 We all went on a pic nic to Leggs Mills today leaving here about half past ten. My father went with the light waggon taking Girards wife and little Dwight. I took Mary, Sara, Marion, Girard and Charley in the two seated wagon and Jamie went with John and Nannie, Mannie Livingston and Eliza Dibbler. It was a perfect day with a light breeze from the north, fine skies and a rich light on the landscape. John & Nannie were delayed in starting and the children getting hungry we had our dinner on one of the tables under the trees and were in the midst of it when they arrived. After dinner John and I took a boat and went fishing but caught only two bass. We rowed down the creek below the turn. How well I remembered the last time I was there. It was at Bowyers pic nic and I rowed my dear Gertrude, Mrs Van Deusen and Fanny Lee clear down to the head of the falls and up the Plattskill as far as we could go. It all seemed to have occurred only yesterday and yet it was six years ago. After we returned John took the ladies out for a row while I cleaned the fish and we left for home about half past six having had a charming day. My father came home earlier with Girards wife, Marion and the children, who were to attend a childs party at Judge Lawtons. John told me he would go to the head of the Rondout with me next Friday and we have arranged to go then.
