Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, July 24, 1884, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Thursday, July 24, 1884 Spent the forenoon working in the garden which has become very needy while Tom has been getting in the hay. Then I bathed and dressed and after dinner finished my letter to Lucy sending her a copy of my account which I have made out for each of my brothers and sisters. A letter came from Turck this evening in answer to one I wrote him for my father declining to abate any thing from the amount due on his mortgage. He wants a statement of the amount due. Mary and Sara are still in N. Y. and we hope they will come with Calvert tomorrow night. It is lonely enough here without them. I hope now Turck will pay his indebtedness and then I shall know what I am going to do. Have begun to read Trollopes "Perpetual Curate"[.]
