Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, September 19, 1884, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Friday, Sept 19, 1884 Painted along the brook. An autumnal coolness in the air. Found a letter from Sara, one from Perry and Anna Godwins wedding cards. We went up on the hill opposite the house before supper. The fire we hoped to enjoy evenings brings the whole family and all the men into the parlor. There were a dozen in there tonight, and a part of the time the door was shut.
