Jervis McEntee Diaries

Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, March 4, 1885, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution

Wednesday, Mar 4, 1885 Commenced a little twilight picture 15x18 but I have no enthusiasm left. I feel sad and anxious. Calvert called and a little later Bowyer. We are all worried. Called at Warrens in the evening. There were there a Miss Norton I think and a Mr. Spencer who has written an opera. He played some of it which seemed very pleasant and he seemed a refined young man. I did not see Fuller as I hoped to and Mrs. Warren said nothing more about my picture. I am afraid some one damned it in the Century. I cannot bear to seem to ask or expect something from my friends and I carefully refrained from touching the remotest way on my own affairs.
