Jervis McEntee Diary Entry, April 24, 1886, from the Jervis McEntee papers, 1850-1905, in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution
Saturday, Apr 24, 1886 Went to the Academy after breakfast for an hour. Wrote to Weir and went home by City of Kingston at 1 oclock. The trip as far as Haverstraw was delightful over the dreamy river, whose shores were enveloped in a tender haze. I had a good dinner at 2 o'clock. At Haverstraw we ran into a thunder shower and after that it was windy and cooler. We arrived at Rondout at 7. Calvert was there and he, Sara and I had tea together and a fire in the hearth in the evening.
